Silverware Snowflakes and Disco Balls

Silverware Snowflakes with Burlap Ribbon
In an earlier post, I showed you photos of my bar table decorated for the holidays.  The table is located beside this big window in our eating area.  With the silver wreath already hanging on the mirror over the bar table, I knew I needed something besides another wreath to go on this window.

I have plenty of vintage silverware on hand and I thought the three pieces tied together would make great sparkling snowflakes.  I wired the knife, fork, and spoon together then covered the wire with a scrap of burlap tied around the center.  They are hanging from the curtain rod with jute.  One trick to help them hang vertical without tilting, tie the jute around the center of the snowflake then tape it against the backside of the knife blade.

Vintage Silverware Snowflakes and Disco Ball Ornaments
The vintage silver didn't sparkle as brightly as I wanted it to, so I robbed the Christmas tree of these two disco ball ornaments, added crystal prisms, and for night time, a string of white lights.  It's really pretty first thing in the morning when the sun is shining in too.  The the disco balls reflect all sorts of dots into the kitchen and den.

(The disco ball ornaments link is to Amazon.  I'm not an affiliate, just passing along where you can find them.  They are also sold at Cracker Barrel Restaurants if you have one in your area!)

Book Page Wreath and Vintage Jar Snow Globes

I'm a little late to the party with the bookpage wreath.  I saw some beautiful wreaths last year and I'm just now getting around to making my own.  It was really an easy project and I thought the last mirror in the foyer was the perfect place for it.

I made the waterless snow globes a couple of year ago and I'm still in love with them.  These are displayed on top of an antique pie safe that belonged to my grandparents.

I picked up this little truck last year on clearance after Christmas.  I was really looking for a red, vintage style truck but this was what I found and I was cute AND cheap!

Here's a little sample of what I'm working on currently.  It's the French bottle drying rack.  Last year it was decorated with cookie cutters and gingerbread people.  You can see it here.  This year, the bottle rack will be a tree again but sporting green branches and mini mason jar lights.

Aren't the mason jars adorable?!  They are real glass and I wish I had a whole set.  Unfortunately, I was only able to find 4 at a local antique/gift store.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!

Hanukkah and a Little Christmas Decor

We celebrate Hanukkah each year.  My girls enjoy lighting the menorah each night and playing a little dreidel.  When we began celebrating several years ago, I googled latkes and how to serve them.  We fried up hashbrowns then topped them with a little sour cream and applesauce.  It sounded weird but, boy, was it good :)

With a couple of nights left in Hanukkah, I've also begun pulling out the Christmas decorations.  I'm still wading through storage totes but here is a glimpse of what I've done so far.

The bar table sits between the breakfast area and the den.  I've used the vintage style tinsel trees in gold and silver.

By the way, the burlap runner that's on the bar table now...it's the one that faded onto my linen pillow requiring a quick fix to salvage it.  You can see that post here.  I removed the burlap sleeve and it's now living life as a table runner :)

This silver tinsel wreath is from Target (purchased at Goodwill still with tags).  I love the aged patina of the silver.

The bar has an outdoorsy, masculine theme with the pine cones and duck themed glasses.  There is a bottle of homemade wine in the tray.  I tried my hand at wine making last year with the blackberries we have here on our land.  Let's just say the bottle is purely decorative now and I will stick with things I know from now on.  (It tasted like fingernail polish remover!)

Well, back to the decorating.  I promise there are colors involved elsewhere.  The front porch is going plaid!  I love plaid.  I have a Pinterest Board just for plaid if you'd like to follow it.  It's I Heart Tartan.

Winter Wonderland Chalkboard

A while back I decided that the walls leading down to our garage would look pretty great with chalkboard paint.  Turning the entire stairwell into one large chalkboard to doodle on :)

Winter Wonderland (close-up)

The graffiti, drawings, sayings, etc. change quite frequently.  A few days ago, I washed the entire stairwell walls and decided to decorate the walls for the holidays.

With the weather most of us are experiencing right now, I think the Winter Wonderland scene is appropriate.
Deer Antler "Mount"

I'm kinda digging the whole deer/antlers/hunting theme decor right now, so I decided to add my own "mount" to the wall.

The lists are for my daughters.  I thought this would be a fun way for them to write down the items they would like for Christmas.  (They are 14, 16, and 22...really hard ages to buy for!)

I hope you enjoyed this post.  I can say that it was a cheap DIY project from the beginning.  I used Martha Stewart's recipe for homemade chalkboard paint.  I added 2 tablespoons of unsanded grout to 1 cup of flat-finish latex paint (multiplying the recipe to make enough to cover the walls).  I picked up the unsanded grout at the thrift store.  It was a partially used box so the price and amount were perfect for this project.  I already had the flat black paint on hand from another project.  The DIY project is pretty cheap but can pack a lot of punch when it comes to decorating!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I am so thankful to be blogging and creating and I am so thankful for you!

God bless!

The Fight for Thanksgiving before Christmas

It's the confusing time of year where Thanksgiving gets somewhat elbowed out of the way by everyone jumping the gun to get the Christmas season started.

It's all a little overwhelming as a blogger.  Trying to keep up with the flow of everyone posting their mantles beautifully decorated with greenery and stockings, and creatively decorated trees.  I wish I could bottle their energy to get it all done like they do.  I guess this is really isn't that early compared to those in the magazine industry.  I believe they do layouts MONTHS in advance.

This really isn't Thanksgiving but I thought it had a fall feel to it with the burlap background.  It's a Hatch Show Print.  A really cool company that still makes posters on the original print machines in Nashville.

Thankfully (lol!) this Thanksgiving we will be celebrating with my family so that means travel for us instead of hosting the 30+ in-laws.  We switch up where we will be for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

This year we will be in East Tennessee at my mom's for Thanksgiving and then in Nashville for Christmas at the in-laws. Next year it will be the other way around.  Both are actually close enough that we can do day trips to allow for hubby's or one of the girl's work schedules.

I did some fall decorating which is getting us through until next week.  So...deep breaths until then and enjoy some "throwback" pictures of Christmas a few years ago.  They were taken when my kitchen was Roasted Red Pepper...pre-beadboard backsplash and the new fresh white/greige colors.

Vintage Elf on a Shelf...he's behaving for the moment

Dollar Tree pre-made gingerbread house cookies use under a cloche.
I added sugar for the snow :)

By next weekend, I'll be wading through Rubbermaid totes and other boxes, pulling out the Christmas decor...trying to catch up!

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!
