Rustic Candle Chandelier

I saw a version of this rustic chandelier on Pinterest and wanted to make a candle version to hang outside for an upcoming party.  So off to my hoard of scrap wood to see what I could come up with.

I found this piece of wood from an old deck that had been torn down.  The gray color was perfect for what I had in mind.

My board was big enough to hold 5 pint size mason jars.  Roughly measure out the spacing for the jars and trace around the openings.

 

To cut the holes in the board, I used a hole saw bit on the drill press.  These tools aren't necessary however.

A scroll saw will do the job just fine.  You will want to drill a hole in the center of the circle so that saw blade has a place to start.

Here they are all cut out and jars in place.  I used Gorilla Glue to adhere the jars to the board.  

After the Gorilla Glue cured, I hot glued a piece of sisal rope around the jars to hide the cut in the wood.

To hang the chandelier, I drilled a hole in each end of the board and ran sisal through, knotted the ends, and created a loop at the top.

Now, to create a way to hang it from the tree.

I had this old hook that I got from my brother's farm a few years ago.  It was rusty and cool and I had no idea at the time what I needed it for then.  Now, it's the perfect hook to hang the chandelier with.

Once I ran the sisal through the hook, I used zip ties to secure the ends together.  Clip the ends of the zip ties before the next step.  Wrap more sisal around the zip ties to hide them.  I secured the sisal with hot glue.  

(I had a photo of this step and it somehow disappeared into the great unknown.)

And, here it is!  It's hanging higher than it looks in the photo.  I think it'll give a nice candle glow under this big oak tree during the outdoor party.  I'll be sure to post photos from the party later!
